Résumé : | In light of the high proportion of people with drug use disorders in the criminal justice systems and their right to the highest attainable standards of treatment, the contemporary international standards for comprehensive treatment have been compiled as part of the Pompidou Group's South-East Europe Co-operation Group on "Developing comprehensive drug treatment systems in prisons" to be applied in the criminal justice system and custodial settings. This background paper is based on a human rights approach and on the current body of evidence-based knowledge of the treatment of people with drug use disorders. It aims at supporting healthcare providers and all other stakeholders responsible for people with drug use disorders in the criminal justice system in their care and treatment in accordance with international standards. The paper includes presentations and recommendations of standards of the relevant legal framework, primary and secondary healthcare services, psychosocial and pharmacological treatment, continuity of care and a literature review of documents on international standards. |
