Résumé : | We would like to thank all of the commentators for raising important issues. Rather than answering these points commentator by commentator we identified four overlapping areas of interest and concentrated on them. They are: (1) causes of death and their contribution to the relationship between alcohol consumption and mortality; (2) confounding; (3) methodological considerations and (4) implications for prevention.
