Résumé : |
The Project Assessment of Drug Abuse in Serbia was financed by the European Union and realised by the European Agency for Reconstruction, with the approval and support of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Serbia. The main objective of this Project was to define the extent of the drug abuse problem in Serbia with an overview of activities conducted at primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare levels. Apart from research based on routine healthcare statistical indicators, and an appraisal of the organisational structure of the healthcare system intended for tackling drug abuse related problems through structured interviews, the Project also included an analysis of the situation in this area among Serbian secondary school students.
A Questionnaire-based Survey was conducted as a cross-study to find out knowledge, attitudes and behaviours of youth in regard to psychoactive substance abuse. The sample included over 3,000 students from the 2nd grade of Secondary Schools in three Serbian cities: Belgrade, Novi Sad and Ni, as it was envisaged by the Project. The guiding methodology used in this Survey followed the recommendations of the ESPAD network (European School Project on Alcohol and Other Drugs). The Survey itself was conducted at the end of October 2005, followed by the analysis of the gathered data and public presentations at two conferences organised by the Project with the support of the Serbian Ministry of Health: Drug Abuse in Serbia (November 30th 2005) and Drug Abuse Prevention in Serbia (January 25th 2006). The data obtained by this Survey enables not only an overview of the problematic drug abuse situation in Serbia and comparisons with results of similar Surveys in Europe, but also proposals for necessary changes in the healthcare and educational activities aimed at solving this problem among adolescents. Application of the ESPAD method enabled establishment of cooperation with this important network bringing together European countries in prevention-related efforts. Promoting the results obtained within the Serbian school study will enable inclusion of our country in the ESPAD network. |
