ENGLISH : In this communication, the author, L. Pantoja, PhD, Director of the Institute of Drug Dependencies at the European University of Deusto, Bilbao (Spain), shows how training of professionals in drug dependencies has been, is and will be in the coming years, a very important matter in all European countries and all over the world and that it is an area which needs constant revision. At the same time he maintains the thesis that in the field of forming professionals in drug dependencies there has been a lack of a concrete policy in the past and, therefore of a strategic planning in European countries both individually and collectively. At the same time he proposes entering into a phase of collaboration between countries of the European Union to obtain common formation policies which favour the exchange of professionals between different countries. In order to analyze this problem, he deals with the following questions: the predominant trajectory of training over the past three decades, what should be understood by formation or training, what criteria should guide the training, what the objectives of training should be at the present time and in the future, who should be trained, in what subjects, what would be the most efficient methodology, who should the trainers be and what characteristics should they have, the ideal place for providing training and how to control the repercussions or the effects of the formative actions on the professionals.
