ENGLISH : The Cochrane Drugs and Alcohol Review Group is part of Cochrane Collaboration, which was established in the UK, in 1992, with the aim of producing and disseminating systematic reviews of the effects of healthcare interventions. The Group, composed of seven editors from Australia, France, Great Britain and Italy, is based in Rome at the Department of Epidemiology ASL RME, Rome, Italy. The main activity of the Group is to conduct systematic reviews of trials on prevention, treatment and rehabilitation treatment for the problematic use of dependence producing substances. The Editorial Group has created a specialised register of the random control trials (RCT) which includes both published and unpublished studies which are retrieved through the systematic search of electronic databases, and personal contacts with researchers and pharmaceutical companies. As of December 2003, the Group has published 19 reviews and 12 review protocols. The reviews and protocols focus on the pharmacological treatment of opioid, cocaine and alcohol dependence. Other types of treatment are being dealt with in the new protocols now being prepared. Cochrane Collaboration is based on the participation of researchers, clinicians and patients from all over the world. (Review's abstract) |
