Résumé : |
ENGLISH :
In the Soviet period, ethnic assertiveness through local evaluations of the use of alcohol was instrumental for Georgians in maintaining a defiant self-identity. The use of alcohol was integrated into self-images at once ethnic and gendered. Positive evaluations depended on the orderly regulation of drinking according to ethnic custom in which the presence of both sexes and all age-groups of the community was emphasized. This ordered social drinking was contrasted with the all-male outcasts in the street who were 'alcoholics', and deemed to be no longer properly men or Georgian. (Extract of the publication) |
