ENGLISH: Context: Online poker has become very popular among young adults. Identified as an addiction, this gambling necessitates a part of ability. Poker players frequently use the term 'tilt' to refer to an emotional state involving loss of control and money. This concept is mentioned in numerous discussion forums and documentations on poker. But few scientific researches have been focusing on this process. The aim of this qualitative study was to explore and better define the concept of tilt, never studied in an online context. Method: Semi-structured interviews were performed with ten online poker players. After transcription of the interview, we made a thematic analysis. Results: Tilt would be a consequence of a loss of control in game and negative feelings (anger, frustration), associated to transitional dissociative experiences. Determined by internal and external events, tilt affects behavioral, emotional and cognitive processes. Tilt involves negative emotions (sadness, guilt) and waste of money. Discussion: Tilt could be a transitional form of pathological gambling behavior and be a gateway to addiction. It seems essential to include tilt in future researches on online poker addiction. |
