ENGLISH: An international dynamic of "alcohol-free months" campaigns exists for several years. This type of campaign revolutionizes the strategies for regulating the risks associated with alcohol consumption, based on embodiment of the benefits of temporarily stopping alcohol consumption and empowerment, becoming aware of its capacity to long term change. There are many short-term and long-term benefits seen among participants in this type of abstinence challenge, even among those who fail the challenge. As is often the case with alcohol in France, the promotion of "alcohol-free" events triggered strong opposition reactions demonstrating the denial of the health and social burden of alcohol and also the influence of the political and wine lobby. The associations and federations of the addictology field have decided to take up the challenge and to propose the Dry january in 2020. |
