Résumé :
In light of the current paucity of reliable data on acute recreational drug and NPS toxicity we felt that it was worthwhile to develop a network to collect data at an Emergency Room level across Europe using sentinel specialist centres; this forms the basis of the European Drug Emergencies Network (Euro-DEN) project that is described below. This also addresses key areas within both the European Union Drugs Strategy 2005-12 and the EMCDDA 2013 work programme. The EU Drugs Strategy 2005-12 included reference to the need for "new approaches to improve the knowledge base in drug-related adverse consequences to ensure the exchange of accurate and policy-relevant information" and to provide "a better understanding of the drugs problem... through a measured and sustainable improvement in the knowledge base and knowledge infrastructure". In addition key areas in the EMCDDA 2013 work programme included "monitoring new trends and developments and assessing the risks of new substances". [Extract]
