It provides specific, concise quality statements, measures and audience descriptors to provide the public, health and social care professionals, commissioners and service providers with definitions of high-quality care. This quality standard covers the treatment of adults (18 years or over) who misuse opioids, cannabis, stimulants or other drugs in all settings in which care is received, in particular inpatient and specialist residential and community-based treatment settings. This includes related organisations such as prison services and the interface with other services, for example those provided by the voluntary sector. This quality standard describes markers of high-quality, cost-effective care that, when delivered collectively, should contribute to improving the effectiveness, safety and experience of care for people with drug use disorders in the following ways: - Preventing people from dying prematurely. - Enhancing quality of life for people with long-term conditions. - Helping people to recover from episodes of ill health or following injury. - Ensuring that people have a positive experience of care. - Treating and caring for people in a safe environment and protecting them from avoidable harm. |
