Résumé : | This survey has been based on a set of "Drug user health information forms". These forms, for which the model was prepared by the INSERM Working Group on the Consumption of Toxic Substances liable to Abuse, were completed with the assistance of the Directorate-General of Health, at centres providing out-patient or in-patient treatment for drug users. [...] we believe that the present survey, which includes descriptions of the personal, family and social characteristics of a group including 546 young people below the age of 25 (82 per cent of the total), and which analyses their drug dependence, its development or the complications arising from it, will contribute to the understanding of the present situation regarding the dissemination of drugs among young people. The results of this survey also point to certain factors which would seem to be important but will have to be studied in greater detail before their importance can be demonstrated. Some examples are present and past family - and particularly maternal - relations, and the degree of integration of the individual in his immediate or more distant social environment.
