Résumé : | The therapeutic community (TC) is a drug treatment modality that uses a holistic design for creating lifestyle changes. It is characterized by a democratic philosophy with foundations in social learning theory. In the next article, the historical background regarding TCs is described as well as their organizational and ideological characteristics. TCs have changed in recent years in response to the needs of various subgroups, such as women drug users with children. This article also includes a summary of findings drawn from evaluation studies of TCs. |
