Résumé : | In this article, Lisa Maher and Kathleen Daly use ethnographic research to examine women's roles in the informal drug economy. The authors find that the drug labor market is stratified by gender within which women are more likely than men to occupy lower-level positions. Women are viewed as untrustworthy and unable to engage in and respond appropriately to drug-related violence. Moreover, the authors find that opportunities for sex-for-drug exchanges have declined, and potential earnings from these exchanges are limited. |
