Résumé : | Most studies of injecting drug users (IDUs), are based primarily on heroin users. However, as this article shows, IDUs do not represent a homogeneous group. Stephen E. Lankenau and Michael C. Clatts conducted research on ketamine injectors and found that members of this group differ from what is known about heroin injectors. For example, ketamine users often inject several times during the same episode, and the social setting in which ketamine users inject often includes several other injectors. The authors also observe that a number of ketamine injectors frequently lend or borrow drug paraphernalia from other IDUs. All of these behaviors can increase the possibility of the transmission of infections disease, including HIV. |
