Résumé : | Ritalin is medicine that can be prescribed for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children. In this chapter Toby Miller and Marie Claire Leger trace the history of psychiatry and children and note the increasing role of the state in this regard. The authors outline the criticisms surrounding the diagnosis of ADHD and prescriptions of Ritalin. They also discuss illegal use by school and college students as well as professionals, explore the relationship between gender and ADHD, and link the prevalence of ADHD to culture and modernity. |
