Résumé :
In this classic piece written more than fifty years ago, Howard S. Becker argues that experiencing the positive effects of marijuana must be learned. According to Becker, the learning process includes three stages: (1) learning how to smoke so that the effects of marijuana are experienced, (2) learning to recognize the effects of being "high," and (3) learning to enjoy the positive effects of the drug. Following his analysis of interviews conducted with fifty people from diverse social backgrounds, Becker argues that the "sequence of changes" helps users experience the drug in a pleasurable way.
