Résumé :
ENGLISH :
The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Regional Drug Control Programme makes provision for the establishment of a regional drug surveillance network (SADC Epidemiology Network on Drug Use - SENDU) in the 14 SADC member States. Between July 2000 and June 2001, a regional consultation meeting was held, country audits were completed, agreement was reached on broad indicators and the way forward, and training was provided on community-based surveillance networks. Technical support visits were also undertaken to Mauritius, Lesotho, and the Seychelles. A review of available data on alcohol and other drug use in these countries, and associated consequences together with existing data sources, will be presented along with a report from Phase 9 of the five-site South African Community Epidemiology Network on Drug Use (SACENDU). An update will be provided on the way forward; including data sources to be accessed from July 2001. (Author' s abstract)
