Résumé : | Civilizations, as it seems, have been developing in immense majority the use of psychoactive products, of drugs, if one should use this widespread term. They are available among societies discovered and colonised by European powers as from the eighteenth century; colonial administrations have then to decide about which policy they have to take up regarding them. [...] We will study four examples: the first one will consider the opium distribution system in the British Indian Empire, where the Crown has to face the unprecedented problem of massively distributing an indigenous drug; the French wholly state-controlled system of Indochina Opium Company will make up our second example; our third chapter will deal with the tobacco Companies in North Africa, incorporating cannabis distribution; finally, the Kingdom of Siam and its non-colonial organisation will end our enumeration.
