Résumé : | Findings from a household survey of England and Wales, the British Crime Survey (BCS), are discussed here. Among other factors, consumption of alcohol is an important marker for drug use. Paradoxically, however, the comparatively limited increase in drug use apparent from the 1994 and 1996 BCS may have been linked with an increase in the popularity of alcohol on the part of young people. Other research, involving the general range of suspects arrested by the police, suggests complementary roles for alcohol and other drugs. (Author' s abstract) |
