ENGLISH: Weekly alcohol consumption by 25-35 years old active men encompasses verbal elaborations, meanings and very different aims. According to social and occupational membership, ideal types can define alcohol consumption and outline ways that individuals use for individually and collectively prescribing to what interviewees consider is "good" or "bad" drinking. These social constructions of drinking are organized around condemning and distancing oneself from teenage drinking. The importance of "not drinking like teenagers" thus legitimizes and allows the developing adult to drink like, and as, an adult. Discourse analysis brings out forms of legitimising and ways of highlighting valued alcohol consumption, exemplified by such expressions as "a good wine ", "a noble product ", "an alcohol which one appreciates ", "a good drunkenness with good products". Being able to "control" or "tame" the product hence demonstrates one's gustative and qualitative knowledge and opens the way to the symbolic and differential construction of grown-up drunkenness and teenage binging, both of which would seem, nevertheless, to correspond to the same "alcoholic" reality. |
