Résumé : |
ENGLISH : Pathological gambling is a progressive disease that devastates not only the gambler but also the people whom he or she has relationships. In 1980, the American Psychiatric Association accepted pathological gambling as a "Disorder of Impulse Control." Gambling can be a powerful form of addiction for many people, even adolescents. In fact, research conducted by Henry Lesieur, PhD, Durand Jacobs, PhD, and others indicates that adolescents are about three times more likely than adults to become problem gamblers. It is an illness that is chronic and progressive, but it can be diagnosed and treated. This interview discusses this addiction and related issues with Heiko Ganzer, MSW, specialist in gambling addiction and its treatment and Eric (Rick) Zehr, Vice President, Addiction & Behavioral Services at Proctor Hospital in Illinois. Mr. Zehr helped develop Illinois's first gambling addiction treatment program as well as the nation's first Internet addiction treatment program. |
