FRANÇAIS : Cet article étudie le travail avec les familles de toxicomanes, à savoir : a) négocier avec la pathologie familiale sous-tendant la toxicomanie et favoriser l'émergence d'une relation intrafamiliale saine pour préparer le terrain à la guérison. b) aider la famille à faire face à l'impact de la toxicomanie sur elle. c) favoriser la compréhension de la toxicomanie par la famille et engager sa participation à la guérison du toxicomane. L'auteur met l'accent sur le "pouvoir familial", étant donné que la famille est considérée comme le principal soutien du toxicomane au cours du traitement et de la réinsertion et qu'elle peut procurer soulagement et soutien à elle-même comme aux autres familles ayant les mêmes difficultés. ENGLISH : This paper examines work with the families of drug addicts in terms of (a) dealing with family pathology underlying addiction and the fostering of healthy family interaction to smoothen the part of recovery. (b) helping the family to cope with the impact of addiction on the family, and (c) fostering family understanding of addiction and ensuring its contribution to the recovery of the addict. It focuses on the concept of family power, since the family is viewed as the major unit for the strength and support for the addict through the process of treatment and rehabilitation, and one that can provide relief and support to itself as well as to other families which are similarly placed.
