FRANÇAIS : La fondation Robert W. Johnson a investi plus de 45 millions de dollards sur 7 ans pour implanter un programme de lutte contre la toxicomanie dans 14 villes des Etats Unis. Le centre universitaire de Nashville coordonne l'ensemble. Cet article présente le travail accompli durant les 18 premiers mois: études préliminaires, états des lieux, implantation des projets, politique locale... Les professions de santé sont incitées à se mobiliser davantage contre ce fléau. ENGLISH : Fighting back is a comprehensive substance abuse program operating in 14 communities spread throughout the United States. The Robert W. Johnson Foundation has committed more than $45 millions over a 7-year period to plan and implement innovative, community-wide initiatives. In this article, the work in progress at the end of 18-months of a 5year implementation program in each site is reported. The Program operates from a base at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The senior staff highlights the process that has unfolded to date, describes some of the sources of encouragement, and discusses some of the critical issues and sources of concern.
