(Résumé de la revue) ENGLISH : As far as the practitioner is concerned, the admission of a drug addict to medical services should involve treatment which is not so much symptomatic as focused on the function of the symptom. Links need to be discovered between the addict's personal and family history and the manifestation and evolution of his/her psychic and behavioural symptoms. The therapist's work should initially focus on the reformulation of the request for help into one of treatment and trying to construct a therapeutic relationship from the outset, the place where the patient can rediscover the deeply-rooted reasons for his/her difficulties and try and find new possibilities again. 1. The moment in the life cycle in which the manifestion of the symptoms can be situated; 2. The function and the orientation these have on personal and interpersonal balance; 3. The personal attitude and the proposed treatment. It is possible to find the meaning that has to be attributed to the symptoms vis-à-vis the individual and/or group psychological economy of people who are significant for the drug addict, relating the life cycle with subjective needs, and approaching intervention through the correct involvement of the treatment unit.
