ENGLISH: The reduction of psychiatric symptoms, which are present in almost all drug addicts, is one of the aims of correct treatment for heroin addicts. In order to verify the presence of psychopathological symptoms - and the meaning of this presence - during various pharmacological or other types of heroin addiction treatment, 326 heroin addicts undergoing different forms of treatment were evaluated using Maremmani and Castrogiovanni's Rating Scale for Drug Addiction (RSDA), and the SCL-90 of Derogatis et at. The results showed that: i) psychopathological symptoms were not frequent during the heroin addiction treatment; ii) psychopathological symptoms could derivefrom psychological discomfort during the treatment due to insufficient medication or an incorrect relationship between diagnosis and type of treatment; iii) the identification of psychopathological symptoms could be very useful in adopting the therapeutic programme to the needs of the patients; iv) people working in the field of drug addiction should receive adequate psychiatric training.
