Résumé :
ENGLISH :
The present study provides a description of cocaine users in four Spanish samples in recent surveys. Two of the samples were interviewed by IREFREA in recreational environments during 1998 and 1999 (N=1341 and N=806 respectively) and the other two form part of a study with representative samples of the population at school and at home carried out by PNSD in the same two years. The results show a clear positive association between involvement in recreational night life and cocaine use. Users of this substance tend to positively evaluate drug use, to accept drug use by their friends and partner, are multiusers of legal and illegal drugs with a higher leaning towards the latter and have a higher probability of being involved in the problematic use and abuse of illegal drugs than non- cocaine users. Cocaine use also shows a strong positive association with drug use among family members and friends. Cocaine users also show a lower risk perception associated with legal and illegal drugs, a more favourable attitude to risk behaviours associated with driving vehicles and a greater frequency of these behaviours than non-consumers. Determined social environments, both recreational and cultural, are facilitating and maintaining cocaine use as a substantial element within a style of life orientated towards fun, poly druguse and other risk behaviours. (Review's abstract.)
