Résumé : | Cannabis is the most widely used illicit drug today. Last year, some 147 million people worldwide smoked cannabis, at least periodically. Many of these users were young people. Today, more people use cannabis, and more young people use cannabis. At the same time, new research tells us that young people are especially vulnerable to the adverse effects of cannabis. The brain is an organism; it grows and develops over time. Exposing the brain to substances such as cannabis at an early age could have negative effects on personal growth and development. In addition, the cannabis that is being smoked today is also much more potent than the cannabis that was smoked during the 1960s and the 1970s. We do not yet know what the effect of this development will be. To establish a coherent and constructive approach to deal with this problem, we need to make full use of the scientific research available to us. (Extract of the publication) |
