Résumé :
ENGLISH :
The scope of the text encompasses 12-step, psychodynamic, cognitive-behavior, marital/family, and motivational approaches, augmented by new coverage of contingency management. Theory chapters present foundational perspectives on how people develop, maintain, and recover from substance use disorders, and provide a concise review of research support for each approach. Complementary clinical chapters translate this solid body of knowledge into specific therapist actions and strategies, providing a start-to-finish view of treatment vividly illustrated with case examples. This clear, accessible format puts each approach at the reader's fingertips and facilitates comparison of key concepts and techniques. In addition, a single chapter discusses psychopharmacological interventions. Finally, a new concluding chapter demonstrates how the clinician can successfully integrate elements of multiple approaches into carefully planned work with individual clients. Incorporating the latest scientific and clinical research, Treating Substance Abuse, Second Edition, is an essential text for advanced undergraduate- and graduate-level courses in clinical psychology, substance abuse counseling, social work, psychiatry, nursing, and related fields. It is also a uniquely practical resource for professionals interested in the full array of evidence-based methods for helping client/overcome problems with alcohol and drugs. (Author' s abstract)
