ENGLISH:
Addiction-related disorders are a major public health priority on La Réunion island, an overseas department and region deeply shaped by its sugar-based economy. Rates of morbidity and mortality linked to alcohol consumption place the region among the highest in French departments. It faces significant health inequalities driven by socioeconomic, structural, and institutional factors. The recent rise in the use of psychostimulants (cocaine, cathinones) and new products such as synthetic cannabinoids is a cause for concern. Despite a dynamic local response - characterized by a highly mobilized voluntary, medico-social, and hospital sector, as well as the commitment of the State and engaged political figures - efforts remain insufficient.
