La problématique alcool est ancienne à La Réunion, elle débute presque avec le peuplement de l'île au XVIIe siècle. Elle entretient des liens anciens et complexes avec le travail servile et la triade canne-sucre-rhum. Elle est liée à l'instauration d'une alcoolisation institutionnalisée, systémique, en véritable norme sociale qui démontre l'emprise profonde d'un système sur cette société insulaire créole basée sur la culture sucrière. Véritable sujet tabou, grevé de lourdes conséquences sanitaires et sociales, il a longtemps été envisagé avec une certaine forme de fatalité avant de faire tardivement l'objet d'une politique de santé publique. ENGLISH:
The alcohol problem is old in Reunion, it began almost with the settlement of the island in the 17th century. It maintains old and complex links with slave labor and the cane-sugar-rum's triad. It is linked to the establishment of institutionalized, systemic alcohol consumption, as a real social norm that demonstrates the deep influence of a system on this Creole island society based on sugar cultivation. A real taboo subject, burdened with serious health and social consequences, it was long considered with a certain form of inevitability before belatedly becoming the subject of a public health policy.
