Le cannabis est l'une des plantes les plus anciennement connues par l'Homme. Il a été cultivé et exploité depuis le début de l'histoire de l'Humanité pour la qualité de ses fibres et pour son utilisation à des fins récréatives ou thérapeutiques. L'histoire de la diffusion du cannabis est étroitement liée aux migrations humaines. On assiste à un regain d'intérêt depuis les deux dernières décennies avec l'identification des récepteurs cannabinoïdes, du système cannabinoïde endogène (ou endocannabinoïde) et la mise en évidence du rôle essentiel de ce système dans la modulation neuronale. Notre objectif a été de retracer les six mille ans de l'histoire du cannabis médical sur la base de connaissances paléobotanique, archéologiques et historiques.
ENGLISH:
Cannabis is one of the most ancient plants known to man. It has been cultivated and exploited since the beginning of human history for the quality of its fibers and for its use for recreational or therapeutic purposes. The history of the spread of cannabis is closely linked to human migration. There has been a renewed interest in the past two decades with the identification of cannabinoid receptors, the endogenous cannabinoid system (or endocannabinoid) and the demonstration of the essential role of this system in neuronal modulation. Our aim has been to retrace the six thousand years of the history of medical cannabis on the basis of paleobotany, archaeological and historical knowledge.
