Résumé :
The Global SMART Update is designed to provide regular brief reports on emerging patterns and trends of the global synthetic drug situation.
The current issue provides an insight into the concomitant non-medical use of benzodiazepines and opioids which has been linked to a number of deaths that occurred in the recent opioid crisis. This situation has been further exacerbated by the large variety of benzodiazepines available on the market, ranging from counterfeit products to NPS belonging to the benzodiazepine class, which vary significantly in terms of their duration of action, pharmacology and toxicology. This report particularly highlights the need to raise awareness of potential severe adverse effects surrounding non-medical polydrug use involving benzodiazepines and the dangers in acquiring counterfeit medicines.
