Résumé :
Background: According to the Gateway theory (GT), licit drugs use lead to cannabis use, which can itself be followed by the initiation of other illicit drugs (OID). The aim of this study was to evaluate if the order of initiation sequence could influence further substance use or misuse among young adults.
Method: Data from the 2010 Health Barometer, a French nationwide population-based study on drug use, were used (22,774 subjects aged from 15 to 64). Seven sequences were computed using the reported ages at initiations. Logistic regressions were performed to estimate the likelihood of current use for four substances (tobacco, alcohol, cannabis and OID) and hazardous use for tobacco, alcohol and cannabis. Each model was adjusted on some socio-demographic covariates. [Extract]
