Résumé :
The PG/UNDCP project successfully built up a network ofprofessionals in the CEECs and trained them in the skills they needed to establish sustainable, multidisciplinary drug use monitoring systems for their cities based on standardised methods and comparable data. The results of this modest investment in human resources were rapid and tangible. A remarkable improvement in baseline data collection and analytical capacity, as weIl as in the quality of the reported data, occurred in aIl nine participating cities. On-going city reporting was secured and the groundwork established for the further development of national data collection systems. This work therefore helped prepare the ground for subsequent and ongoing investment by the European Union in data collection in the region. (Extract of the document)
