Résumé :
For ten years, French public health authorities have carried out several harm reduction actions to avoid infectious diseases spread among Injecting Drug Users (IDUs), (100 000 persons). One main part of that policy was to increase both sterile syringes and substitution treatment availability in pharmacies. In France, sterile syringes have been sold in pharmacies without any prescription since 1987 and buprenorphine treatment has been licensed (and prescribed by General Practitioners (GP)) since February 1996. Furthermore, methadone treatments, which were previously prescribed in specialised centres only, may now be prescribed by GP in case of a follow up of stabilised IDUs, since March 1995. Since January 1996, an information system named SIAMOIS has been developped to follow those actions at national and local level. (extract of the document)
