Résumé :
In this chapter, Hilary Surratt notes the increasing numbers of females who are incarcerated for drug offenses, with little opportunity for engaging with drug treatment while in prison. Moreover, treatment needs often differ for women and men, and Surratt describes how women can benefit from treatment programs that acknowledge these needs. The author presents data collected from women who were enrolled in a residential drug treatment program that allows participants' children to be present. The respondents emphasized that their children's presence encouraged them to engage more fully in the recovery process and assisted with motivation to address their addictions. Several narratives focused primarily on the role of motherhood. The author also describes the limitations of the program.
