Résumé :
In this chapter, Hilary Surratt and her colleagues use the "subculture of violence" perspective to examine childhood trauma and adult victimization among female sex workers who consume drugs. They draw on data collected from 325 women in Miami and highlight findings with qualitative narratives collected through focus groups. Approximately three-quarters of the respondents had consumed crack cocaine in the 30 days prior to the interview, and approximately 14 percent had injected during this time period. The authors found that the women had high rates of victimization during childhood and adulthood and that violence was perceived as normative.
