Résumé :
Most of the research that addresses linkages between drug use and crime focuses on property crime. Less understood Is the relationship between drugs and violence. In this regard, Paul J. Goldstein draws from existing research to propose a framework for considering the drugs/violence nexus. One linkage is psychopharmacological-drugs alter behavior by reducing inhibitions or instigating aggression. By contrast, economically compulsive violence occurs when individuals commit violent crimes in their efforts to secure funds to purchase drugs for self-use. Systemic violence is associated with the turf battles and struggles for control in the drug-dealing and drug-trafficking industries.
