Résumé :
In this article, Craig Reinarman describes historical and contemporary drug scares in the United States. These scares, which have targeted opium, alcohol, LSD, and more recently crack cocaine, have much in common. According to the author, drug scares are created or constructed by powerful people who are threatened by the traits of people who use drugs. He links drug scares to racism and class bias. Drug scares, in turn, influence drug policy, so that policies are misguided. Reinarman suggests that drug scares occur far more often in the United States than elsewhere.
