Résumé :
Analyzed qualitative/ethnographic data from 100 depth interviews with women on methadone and documents the problems associated with maintenance. Women's conceptions of readiness to detoxify from methadone, the components of this state, and the illusions that are operative are presented; and the obstacles to detachment from methadone are discussed.
