Résumé :
The report describes a model of surveillance system of drug users attending drug treatment centres in Italy. The use of individual data makes it possible to describe the characteristics of this study population in greater detail as well as to carry out analytic epidemiological studies. The availability of data on an individual basis allows to measure temporal trends in prevalence and incidence of drug users attending treatment centres and to estimate mortality rates. The latter is an important epidemiological indicator of the effect of drug use on health, because it provides data not only on drug-related deaths but also on mortality from other causes which represent about half of overall mortality among intravenous drug users.
