L'auteur décrit les difficultés méthodologiques rencontrées lors d'une étude menée sur l'usage de drogues parmi une population de jeunes irlandais de 15 à 19 ans en milieu urbain. Elle montre l'importance qu'il y a à se faire accepter et à gagner la coopération d'un individu clef occupant une position centrale dans la structure sociale du groupe et le sens que cela prend pour la recherche.
