Résumé :
This study examined the association between child maltreatmentand adult violence in a high-risk sample of women withand without a history of cocaine abuse and the contributionof working models of childhood attachment relationships inunderstanding this association. Results indicated thatwhereas childhood physical abuse was associated with adultsexual victimization for cocaine-abusing women, sexualabuse was associated with both partner violence victimizationand perpetration for comparison women. Insecure workingmodels of attachment were associated with partnerviolence victimization for comparison women, independentof the effect of sexual abuse. These findings suggest the importanceof research focused on understanding the processes bywhich child maltreatment may lead to later violence and thatexamines both childhood and adulthood experiences in understandingpathways to adult violence.
