What is the document?
This is a good practice guide aimed at treatment providers to help reduce the number of unplanned discharges and increase successful treatment completions.
What is its purpose?
To describe good practice in improving engagement and retention in drug misuse treatment; improve treatment delivery, in particular for clients who are failing to benefit from treatment; and reduce the number of clients who have their treatment withdrawn.
Who is it addressing? How big/wide is the audience?
Providers of drug misuse treatment, joint commissioners, service users and service user advocacy groups.

To review existing practice in line with this good practice guide, which is based on a review of the current evidence base, existing national guidance and the consensus of an expert advisory group established for this purpose.
