La cocaïne peut être consommée de différentes manières et sous diverses formes. Lorsqu'elle est injectée, par voie intraveineuse, ou fumée, le toxique agit directement sur le système nerveux central. Zürich est la ville européenne la plus touchée par ce problème, car depuis vingt ans, on y consomme presque exclusivement la cocaïne par voie intraveineuse. Mais il faut noter que seule une faible partie des cocaïnomanes ont des problèmes liés à leur toxicomanie.

Cocaine is consumed in various ways and with different consumption patterns. Cocaine becomes more dangerous when it is consumed in a way which provokes a rapid effect on the central nervous system. Cocaine has a faster effect if it is intravenously injected or smoked. Through the fast change of concentration in the body it becomes more dangerous than if it were sniffed or swallowed. Zürich is one of the most dangerous and problematic sites of cocaine consumption in Europe with its open consumption at the Platzspitz and prior to there, in other places in town. For 20 years, in the street milieu of Zürich, cocaine has been exclusively injected. Only a very small proportion of the cocaine consumers have problems with their consumption. Dangers, problems and their diminution are discussed in this paper. (Author's abstract)
