The french often criticize the Dutch pattern without being aware of the underlying options. This paper compares the approaches of both countries regarding these major issues, aids and drug addiction, to bring to light the ethical, political and even moral options, and to understand the development of the Dutch reflection which led to these answers, with the purpose to help the french current discussion.
