Cet article dans une 1ère partie examine les facteurs familiaux et socioéconomiques qui contribuent à la forte prévalence de la toxicomanie chez les enfants africains d'Amérique. Puis, les stratégies de prévention sont considérées. L'accent est mis sur la présentation d'un projet de programme intitulé SAFE (Substance Abuse - Free Environnement), conçu pour combattre les influences négatives liées à ce milieu. L'objectif étant de rendre plus forts les enfants, de leur apporter des choix alternatifs qui améliorent leur propre estime.
ENGLISH :
In this article were are specifically concerned with the familial and socioeconomic factors that contribute to the exceedingly high prevalence rates of drug abuse in African-American children. In addition to detailing the impact of drug abuse in African-American children and their families, we consider how this critical health problem can be prevented using existing knowledge and strategies known to mental health professionals. A model program entitled Project for a Substance Abuse-Free Environment (SAFE) is outlined. The object in this program is to empower the child and provide him or her with strong alternative choices that will enhance self-esteem. (From the authors)
