A model approach to peer-based alcohol and other drug prevention in a college population (1994)

Cet article décrit les conditions dans lesquelles s'est élaboré, mis en place, et évalué un programme national appelé V.I.E.W. (Virginia Intervention Education Weekend). Ce programme consistait à mettre en oeuvre dans les lycées et universités de Virginie des actions de prévention concernant l'alcool et d'autres drogues, sur la base d'une participation active des élèves et étudiants. Le but était de faire de chaque participant un "spécialiste en prévention", capable de porter les messages préventifs sur son lieu d'éducation. D'une manière générale, ce programme semble avoir donné des résultats positifs.

This article provides a description of the background, development, implementation and follow-up evaluation of a statewide program called V.I.E.W. (Virginia Intervention Education Weekend). V.I.E.W. was designed to put into effect peer-based alcohol and other drug prevention programs in colleges and universities in Virginia. The overall goal of the V.I.E.W. project was to make every student participant a "prevention specialist" who would return to his or her college as part of a peer network of student leaders to focus on institutionalizing alcohol and other drug prevention programs on their respective campuses. Results showed that 46% of twenty-eight participating IHEs had AOD "action plans" in place at follow-up. Of those who did not, 61% reported other positive outcomes as a result of participating in V.I.E.W.
