18 anciens usagers d'héroïne sont interrogés sur l'arrêt de leur consommation et le rôle du traitement. Nombreux sont les facteurs intervenant dans l'abstinence: mort d'un proche par overdose, volonté de changer de vie, de ne plus être incarcéré, aide de la famille etc. Les avantages et les inconvénients des traitements à la méthadone et des communautés thérapeutiques sont discutés. Les personnes interrogées divergent quant à leur avis sur la distribution contrôllée d'héroïne en tant que nouveau choix thérapeutique.
ENGLISH :
18 ex-users were interviewed about stopping, the role of treatment and their views on a proposal to make heroin available in a controlled manner as a new treatment option. Factors involved in stopping heroin use included "hitting the bottom", or the death of a someone close, falling in love, wanting to be a good parent, wanting to avoid to be caught by the police or going to jail, finding a new purpose in life, or support of family or professionals. The respondents were divided in their support for controlled availability of heroin. (From authors'abstract)
