L'échantillon étudié comprend 1525 usagers de drogues illicites, âgés de 18 à 24 ans. Au cours de la première année d'usage initial de drogue, il n'y a pas de variation mesurable du risque de toxicomanie. Cinq à sept ans après l'initiation, le risque augmente sérieusement pour ceux qui ont été initiés au cours de l'adolescence.
ENGLISH :
1525 illicit drug using individuals, 18-24 years old, participated in a multi-site collaborative epidemiologic program. In the first year initial drug use, there was no appreciable variation in the estimated risk of developing drug problem. With passage of some 5-7 years after initial use, the estimated risk of developing drug problem became clearly greater for youths whose drug taking started during the pre-adolescent and very early adolescent years.
